Bodybuilding: Nitric Oxide – NO – NO2

Nitric oxide is a free form gas produced in the body and is used by the body to communicate with other cells of the body. To produce this gas, enzymes in the body break down 'amino acid arginine.

Nitric oxide is a molecule consisting of a nitrogen atom and one oxygen atom. Production of Nitric Oxide occurs when the amino acid L-arginine is converted into L-citrulline by a group of enzymes known as nitric oxide synthase (NOS). The chemical process of conversion is shown in Figure 1.

What to do and what scientific studies give evidence to support this?

despite calls from some in the supplement, there is no adequate scientific literature to demonstrate the effectiveness of the products of nitric oxide. The following was written in May 1996 a paper prepared for the Royal Society and the British Association of Science Writers:
"Synthesis of research continues to flood the scientific journals and study of biological activity and potential for clinical use Nitric oxide (NO): a gas control an unlimited series of functions in the body. Each revelation adds to nitric oxide is already long resume in controlling the flow of blood, which regulate the activity of the brain, lungs, liver, kidneys, stomach and other organs. "

From the above was written in 1996, nitrogen oxide-containing products have continued to be promoted by the medical profession, as well as by athletes looking to add muscle to their frames.

The quotation above that nitric oxide controls blood circulation, and transmits messages between nerve cells.

The fact that nitric oxide increases blood flow should stop interest to bodybuilders, as increased blood flow will provide more nutrients to muscles, helping muscles become larger when subject to stress.

Nitric oxide also affects the endocrine system. After the release of gonadotroptin release of hormones and the release of adrenaline from the adrenal medulla.

Who needs it and what are some symptoms of deficiency?

requires that each of nitric oxide to carry out key physiological processes of the body. From the perspective of a culture, supplementation of nitric oxide may be useful for increasing the growth because of increases in blood flow in parts of the body.

signs of deficiency include physical weakness and fatigue. "Most of nitric oxide" supplements contain the amino acid arginine-alpha-keto-glutarate.

How much should you take? There are side effects?

with any product that contains amino acids, overdose is a possibility. Arginine supplementation too much can cause diarrhea, weakness and nausea. Clear guidelines doses have not been set, so you better do what is known as "tolerance mapping". Take a small dose of a week, consider the benefits and side effects and increase the dosage until the benefits are maximized while minimizing the side effects. Over time the two met and hit the optimal dose. This process is similar to "receptor mapping" for bodybuilders who use insulin.

Many protein powders are fortified with amino acids, including arginine. With this in mind, pay particular attention to what you are ingesting from all supplements taken arginine.
